The Sheriff employs a Social Worker to intervene and advocate for individuals requiring assistance at the time of the eviction.
The Social Worker takes numerous steps to help the mentally ill, rather than throwing them out in the street:
- Connects individuals facing eviction with social service agencies in their area
- Arranges for the appropriate social service agencies to be on scene during the eviction
- Works to have the Mobile Triage Unit to be on scene during the eviction if hospitalization for mental health is a possibility
- Coordinates with family members to petition for psychological evaluation if the individual does not meet the criteria for our office to involuntarily commit
