Office Of Professional Review

Home > Departments > Office Of Professional Review

It is essential that all allegations of officer misconduct are thoroughly and objectively investigated to assure the public that official police misconduct will not be tolerated.

To ensure the public trust and maintain the integrity of the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Thomas Dart has created the Office of Professional Review.  OPR acts as the investigative arm of the Sheriff to identify and report corruption and employee behavior that tends to discredit the Sheriff’s Office or violates a policy, procedure or practice.

Upon receipt of a citizen complaint every effort is made to ensure a thorough, fair and timely investigation of the allegation(s) contained in the complaint, at the same time provide a process whereby officers unjustly accused can be vindicated.

A fair and appropriate adjudication and/or sanction, with consideration given to the complainant, the Sheriff’s Office, the individual employee, and the public trust is determined following the investigation.
