Department Of Corrections

Home > Departments > D.O.C.

The Department of Corrections (D.O.C.) maintains and staff’s one of the world’s most interesting places — the Cook County Jail. For over 165 years, the Jail’s history has been interwoven with the City of Chicago and the millions of citizens of Cook County!

With a staff of 3,000 sworn law enforcement officers and civilian employees and a daily count of at least 9,000 male and female detainees, we have a larger population than many Illinois towns.

Our professional accountability is to Sheriff Thomas Dart and the citizens of Cook County. The D.O.C. constantly strives to meet and exceed the standards of the American Correctional Association and the Illinois Department of Corrections Jail and Detention Standards Unit, and the John Howard Association, which monitors the rights of all jail and prison inmates.

On behalf of all those who work for the Department of Corrections, we invite you to check back frequently for updates and new information.
