Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart is issuing this alert due to an alarming increase in teen usage within Cook County of the drug commonly known as "Ecstasy" and because of the recent teenage deaths that have occurred due to usage.
What You Should Know About "Ecstasy"
- Ecstasy is also known as X, XTC, Adam, Clarity, Lover's Speed and Hug Drug.
- Ecstasy causes nausea, vomiting, confusion, depression, psychotic episodes, and a significant increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
- Potential dangers include severe dehydration, heat exhaustion, heart or kidney failure, brain damage and even death.
- Ecstasy is easily confused with the potent drug PMA, making the potential for overdose severe.
- Signs of Ecstasy usage can include: use of pacifiers, glow sticks, and/or suckers.
