BARRINGTON TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS CHARGED IN SEX ASSAULT OF A MINOR

Home > Press Page

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 — A married Barrington Township couple were charged for their roles in the repeated sexual assault and rape of a minor since last year, according to the office of Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

Berardo Lopez, 37, and Veronica Juarez, 33, both of the 900 block of South Haugh, Barrington, were arrested and charged for the attacks on a 13-year-old girl known to them.

Lopez is charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual abuse for repeatedly assaulting the girl since last summer.

Juarez is charged with one count of endangering the life of a child.  Investigators learned that Juarez knew about the attacks and did nothing to stop them and police say she attempted to hinder the investigation into the assaults.

The investigation began after the minor told a school counselor that she thought she might be pregnant as a result of being sexually assaulted by Lopez.

The victim is now staying with a relative.

Lopez was arrested Friday and remains in the Cook County Jail on $100,000 bond.  Juarez, arrested Saturday, is free after she paid $100 to cover her $1,000D bond.

Lopez is set to appear in Court on February 10th while Juarez will appear on February 16th, both at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
