Thursday, June 11, 2015
—A jail detainee has been charged in an attack on a correctional officer, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
On the morning of June 4, Samuel Salas, 25, attacked a correctional officer on the way to court, according to the Sheriff’s Office investigation, punching the officer multiple times in the head.
The injured officer was treated for nonlife threatening injuries at an area hospital and released.
Salas was charged on Sunday with aggravated battery to a peace officer. He received a $75,000 bond for that charge during a court hearing on Monday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building.
Salas was originally booked at the jail in January 2014 on multiple charges, including murder.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
