OF WIFE AND CHILDREN

Tuesday, August 31, 2010— Bond has been set at $20,000 for a Des Plaines man accused of battering his wife and children, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Tuesday.

Osman Hamad AbdelrahimOsman Hamad Abdelrahim, 42, has been charged with three counts of domestic battery, after he choked his wife and grabbed his two children by the throat.

Officers responded to Lutheran General Hospital after a report of domestic battery in Maine Township.  The victim told detectives that on August 26th, around 10 p.m., she and her husband were in a heated argument after she threw away his cigarettes.  The victim said Abdelrahim strangled her from behind and lifted her up off her feet.  She reported that he then turned her around and placed his hands around her throat and strangled her while she was facing him.  The victim became light-headed and dizzy.  When she yelled for her kids, Abdelrahim let her go.

Shortly after Abdelrahim left the residence, the victim left the home for help.  She stopped at a pharmacy along the way, where she lost consciousness.  Paramedics were called to the store and she was taken to Lutheran General Hospital by the Park Ridge Fire Department.

On Aug. 27th, officers spoke with Abdelrahim, who admitted putting his wife in a choke hold from behind and from the front.  He also admitted grabbing his two children by the throat to calm them down when they got excited.

Officers linked the victim to appropriate social service agencies for assistance.

Abdelrahim’s next court date is Sept. 13th in Skokie.
