GUILTY PLEAS IN SUBURBAN
DOG FIGHTING CASE

Home > Press Page

Thursday, December 10, 2009 — Two Maywood residents charged in September with felony dog fighting entered guilty pleas in the case yesterday, according to the office of Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

Martez Anderson, 38 and Lance Webb, 27, and Charles Sutton, 42, all of Maywood, were arrested in connection with running dog fighting rings from their residences, one of which was also a day care home during the day.

The investigation resulted in the three arrests and nine severely injured dogs being rescued from three houses in Maywood.

At the time of arrest, Sheriff Dart had commented that the scene at the Maywood homes were among the most gruesome his officers had ever come across, made even more harrowing by the presence of a licensed daycare operation.  The daycare operator was not charged with a crime, however the daycare license was revoked by the State of Illinois.

Martez Anderson received a two year sentence for his guilty plea and Lance Webb received 18 months.  Charles Sutton remains in Cook County Jail and has a trial date set for early January.
