SHERIFF ARRESTS TWO WISCONSIN WOMEN FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE OF A MINOR

Home > Press Page

Friday, April 12, 2013Two Wisconsin women have been charged for human trafficking and will be in bond court tomorrow morning, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart has announced.

Elizabeth A. Roeder Shannon L. Hathaway

Elizabeth A. Roeder, 33, of the 2400 block of South 9th Street in Milwaukee, WI, and Shannon L. Hathaway, 41, of the 2600 block of Weurn Road in Stoughton, WI have each been charged with one count of involuntary servitude of a minor (17-18 years) and trafficking for labor/benefits, both are class one felonies.

On April 10, 2013, the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Vice Unit responded to an advertisement off of the website Backpage.com. The undercover officer was told to go to the Super 8 Motel located in River Grove, IL. Once there, the officer was offered sex in exchange for money and arrests were made.

A prompt and thorough investigation by the Sheriff’s Police Vice Unit revealed that one of the individuals in custody was a juvenile. It was also learned that Roeder and Hathaway have been promoting prostitution by placing ads with photos of the juvenile victim and themselves under "Escorts" in the Adult section of the website Backpage.com. This resulted in customers calling the number in the ad and arranging a “date” where sex acts were exchanged for money.

The juvenile victim received services through the Sheriff’s Women’s Justice Programs. She was reunited with family today.

Roeder and Hathaway will be in bond court tomorrow morning at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courts Building.
