COOK COUNTY JAIL LOCKDOWN ENDS
Tuesday, February 3, 2015
—Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart has ended a lockdown at the Cook County Jail today and routine detainee movement has resumed.
The lockdown was ordered on Monday due to a labor shortage at the jail. Approximately 36 percent of the jail staff did not report to work during Sunday and Monday shifts.
A total of approximately 110 officers on those shifts were mandated to work overtime to compensate for the shortage of staff.
During Monday’s lockdown visitation and other detainee movement aside from court and medical appointments were limited.
Sheriff Dart would like to thank the employees who worked extended hours to keep the jail operating.
