Wednesday, December 10, 2008 —Employees of four north suburban businesses were cited for selling beer to a minor during a recent joint operation between the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and the Illinois Department of Revenue, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, according to the Office of Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

The operation was conducted Dec.3 and targeted 11 businesses located in the unincorporated areas of Northern Cook County. A male, under the age of 21, who was working in connection with the Department of Revenue, purchased beer in four of the businesses during the evening checks.

In one case, at Dick’s River Roadhouse, 702 N. River Road, Wheeling Township, the under aged male patron produced a driver’s license clearly marked “under 21,” and was still sold a bottle of beer. The employee who sold the male the liquor, Rachael Claire Cahill, 22, of 1514 5th Ave, Des Plaines, was charged with one count of unlawful sale of liquor to a minor.

Additional businesses and employees cited were Chilli’s Garden Restaurant, 8971 N. Potter Rd., Maine Township where employee Shohail Sultan, 23, of 301 W. Enterprise Dr., Mt. Prospect, was charged; Extra Value Food and Liquors, 9570 N. Potter Road, Maine Township, where employee Umeshbhai Patel, 36, of 9429 Sumac Road, Maine Township was cited; and 7-11, 1644 E. Algonquin Road, Schaumburg Township, where Ghanshyambhai Patel, 48, of 378 Oaktree Ct, Hoffman Estates, sold the undercover officer a six-pack of beer. All three of these offenders were charged with one count of unlawful sale of liquor to a minor.

Ghanshyambhai Patel is slated to appear in 3rd District Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows while the remaining three offenders will appear in 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie on Jan. 23.
