Wednesday, October 2, 2013
—Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that a man wanted in a 1986 sexual assault of a child case has returned to Cook County to face charges after being located by members of Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit.
A Sheriff’s Central Warrant investigation revealed that Julian Rendon, 49, was living in Gastonia, North Carolina. Rendon has an active warrant for a Chicago Police case in which he is accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Chicago in 1986. He was 22-years-old at the time.
After locating him last month, investigators contacted Gastonia police to have Rendon arrested on the active warrant. He waived extradition. Members of the Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit members returned Rendon to Cook County on Tuesday.
Rendon appeared for a bond hearing today at the Maywood Courthouse, where he was denied bond. His next court date is scheduled for Thursday (tomorrow) at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
