OFFICERS LOCATE MISSING 4-MONTH-OLD BOY

Home > Press Page

Friday, July 19, 2013Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that his officers safely returned a missing infant to the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS).

The Sheriff’s Child Protection Response Unit received a child protection warrant for the 4-month-old boy on Monday for possible injurious environment. The child was believed to be with his mother, who should not have had custody of the child.

Investigators also learned there was a strong possibility that his mother was going to leave the area with the child.

The four day search took officers to various addresses in Chicago. The unit worked with the Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit and the Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Center to find the baby.

Based on a tip, Sheriff’s investigators found the child with his mother about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 6300 block of South Francisco Avenue.

The child was taken to a hospital as a precaution and then returned to IDCFS custody.
Since Sheriff Dart formed the unit in October, the Child Protection Response Unit has located 197 children.
