MOTHER ARRESTED FOR LEAVING CHILDREN ALONE OUTSIDE JAIL
Thursday, September 30, 2010— A Chicago woman is free on bond after her young children were found wandering the area near the Cook County Jail – where she was bonding out her husband, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Wednesday.
Priscilla Garcia, 24, of the 2000 block of West 23rd Street, is charged with endangering the life of a child. She was arrested on Sunday after jail officers found her 3-year-old and 5-year-old children crossing the 2700 block of South California Street, coming toward the maximum security Division 10 complex.
Garcia was several blocks away, inside a building posting bond for her husband, who had been arrested on Saturday. She told officers she had left her children in a vehicle with her cousin. But when officers searched the vehicle and area, that relative was not located. Investigators found Garcia had the keys to the vehicle with her when she came into the jail.
She was released on an I-Bond and left the premises with her husband and children. Cook County Jail officials notified the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Garcia’s next court date is set for Oct. 12.
