COOK COUNTY JAIL INMATE CHARGED IN MURDER FOR HIRE PLOT

Friday, October 3, 2014A Cook County jail inmate has been charged with solicitation of murder for hire after an undercover investigation found that he had sought to hire someone to kill a witness in his current case, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.

George Krueger On Sept. 10, Sheriff’s investigators developed information that detainee George Krueger was trying to find a hitman.

Krueger met with someone at the jail who he thought was a hitman on Sept. 18, but in actuality, was an undercover Sheriff’s officer. Krueger offered to pay the undercover officer $3,000 to $4,000 to have the witness killed.

Krueger, 37, has been in jail custody on criminal damage to property, telephone harassment, and criminal trespass charges since Aug. 24. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

He was arrested on Thursday and charged with solicitation of murder and solicitation of murder for hire. He is scheduled to appear in bond court today at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courts Building.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
