Home > Press Page

Monday, August 3, 2009

The Cook County Sheriff’s Police, along with the Maine Township Neighborhood Watch, will participate in National Night Out, according to the office of Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

This annual crime and drug prevention event is designed to strengthen community spirit and generate cooperation between the community and police, encourage participation in local crime and drug prevention programs and send the message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated.

The event begins at 7pm, tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4, at Dee Park, 9250 Emerson (Emerson and Dee) in Des Plaines.  It will include displays and presentations by the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Bomb Squad, Hostage Barricade Team, Helicopter Unit and Canine Unit.  There will also be a 911 interactive display and information on the Sheriff’s Cell Phones for Seniors program.  The night’s activities will culminate with a neighborhood flashlight walk, which will begin at 9pm.

“National Night Out is a wonderful event that gives residents the opportunity to meet the police that serve their community,” Sheriff Dart said.  “It also gives them a chance to see, first hand, some of the resources available to them through the Sheriff’s Office.”
