Friday, March 17, 2017 —Cook County Sheriff’s Police will conduct a roadside traffic safety checkpoint tonight through early Saturday morning in Maywood, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
At the checkpoint, officers will ensure drivers are complying with Illinois driver's license and registration requirements as well as determine whether anyone is driving impaired.
The checkpoint's aim is to emphasize roadway safety, increase seatbelt usage by motorists, promote the importance of safe travel, and help reduce the number of vehicle crashes in Cook County.
Sheriff’s Police will also be conducting enhanced seatbelt enforcement from March 18 through 20 in Cook County.
During the last specialized enforcement period – Feb. 3 through Feb. 6 – Sheriff’s Police made two DUI arrests and issued 34 citations for seat belt violations, 30 for speeding and 21 for driving while using a cell phone without a hands-free device.
The traffic safety checkpoint and the enhanced patrols are funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
