COOK COUNTY JAIL DIVISIONS ON QUARANTINE FOLLOWING STOMACH VIRUS OUTBREAK
Wednesday, February 11, 2015
— Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart has ordered a quarantine of four Cook County Jail divisions after 36 detainees have come down with a stomach virus.
The quarantine will remain in place in Divisions II, III-Annex, VIII and X until further notice. Detainees housed in the affected units are under limited movement.
Division II is a minimum security division currently housing approximately 1,700 inmates. Division III-Annex is a minimum security division currently housing approximately 350 inmates. Division VIII is a medium/maximum division currently housing approximately 900 inmates. Division X is a maximum security division currently housing approximately 700 inmates. Friends and family of Cook County Jail detainees may access the inmate locator at http://www2.cookcountysheriff.org/search2/ to find the division in which their loved ones are currently housed.
The divisions' living, dining, shower, toilet, and all high touch surface areas are being regularly disinfected. Linens have been changed and are being laundered separately.
To this point, no Cook County Jail officers have reported suffering from any symptoms, but staff is being closely monitored to ensure exposure to affected detainees is limited.
