SUBURBAN TEEN ARRESTED FOR ATTACK WITH BASEBALL BAT

Bond was set at $25,000 for a Des Plaines teenager who attacked his mother’s live-in boyfriend with a bat earlier in the week, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said.
Paul Rukawiczkin, 19, is charged with aggravated domestic battery after the assault in his mother’s apartment in the 8900 block of Knight Street in unincorporated Des Plaines.
Around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Rukawiczkin came home after he had consumed two fifths of vodka, investigators learned. A verbal altercation led Rukawiczkin to begin throwing the victim’s belongings off a balcony and the argument continued.
Rukawiczkin then went to his bedroom and retrieved a wooden baseball bat. Though the victim initially blocked several blows with his forearms, eventually Rukawiczkin began striking the victim several times in the head and upper torso.
Rukawiczkin fled the scene, but was later arrested by sheriff’s police walking near Ballard Road and Knight Avenue. Due to his impairment, investigators were not able to question him until Thursday afternoon.
The victim was treated for injuries at Lutheran General Hospital.
Rukawiczkin appeared in Skokie bond court on Saturday.
